If you still are wondering about what makes Goa India’s Most Preferred Travel Destination in the recent Google India report, we will break it down for you. While there is no doubting our love for Goa and we can list possibly some 50 reasons, here is the best of it.
Show us your love for Goa in the comments; tell us what makes it your favourite!
1. THE COOLEST PEOPLE EVER
Oh yes, Goanese are the some of the coolest hosts ever. Warm, friendly, helping, the locals here make you feel as safe as your home; something that we cannot say about most Indian places unless they’re the Himalayan lands.
2) BEACHES THAT FEEL LIKE BEACHES
While North Goa beaches are a tad bit crowded, they are much loved by party hoppers and rightly so. Down south, beaches in Goa, especially Agonda and Palolem will stun you with all the solitude that is there. Most my days in Goa, I was the only one at the beaches, lost in books and picnic lunches after hour long swims. Sounds like a vacation right?
3) GOA DOESN’T IMPOSE, EVER
Goa treads the line between India’s coolest party place and a solitary getaways with such expertise that you never feel being imposed upon. If you’re keen to spend some alone time, stay assured that you won’t have party hoppers swarming you from all around.
4) BEST FOOD EXPERIENCES EVER
Nothing comes close to Vagator’s Thalassa (other than the real Greece tavern), Panjim’s Mum’s Kitchen or Agonda’s Zest (my litte vegan secret!)! Goa will leave you with some of the most lingering food experiences ever.
5) CLOSEST YOU CAN GET TO PORTUGAL IN INDIA
Well, Goa should be on your go-to list if you cannot make it to Portugal. Our favourite beach destination has stark reminders of the Portuguese rule, right from fantastic architecture to authentic-tasting Portuguese food.
6) SURPRISES SURPRISES EVERYWHERE
Look closer and Goa has so much more than its famous churches. Almost every lane has a beautiful chapel, some colourful temple (with a more colourful story around it), mystery-laden caves, secret waterfalls and so much more. Plus, the folklore that makes for everyday conversation here.
7) SLOW SLOW LIFE
It was for nothing that the word ‘susegad’ (Portuguese for ‘quiet’) is associated with Goa. Locals as well as the tourists hit the relaxed mode the second you say Goa. A typical morning in Goan villages starts with epic sunrises, freshly-baked breads that get delivered to your doorstep, daily chores, communal gatherings at some cosy, green hideaway, lip-smacking food and then an even more epic sunset. If you’re not here for some wild nights of partying, Goa is just the place to find get off the Wi-Fi grid and meet yourself again.
8) IT’S ALL CHRISTMASY
If there is one place in Goa that puts up a show for Christmas, IT IS GOA. Preparations, right from carol session to handcrafted souvenir sales, start almost half a month back, making Goa just the place to be. Wonderful December weather of course sets the tone right, spreading the celebrations right across January.
9) HOP-ON HOP-OFF BUSES
Oh yes, we love Goa Tourism; more so after its recent announcement of introducing Hop-On Hop-Off buses that connect all the major tourist attractions in Goa. Travellers will soon be able to get 1 and 2 day passes for these hi-tech, AC buses and roam around our favourite beach destination with complete ease.
10) IT’S CASINO TIME!
Most forms of gambling are deemed illegal in India; considering that and the fact that casinos in Goa are legal as well as world-class. If a round or two on-board a luxurious liner in the ocean is your idea of a good vacation, Goa is your place.
