Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur today stressed the need to make changes in the school curriculum so as to link education with employment. He was speaking at the annual function of Mount Carmel School here.
He said skill development should begin from Class VIII. Students should have the option of learning the trades of their choice from an early age. “While corporate houses need professionals, our education system is not able to serve their requirements. Students should keep away from drugs and prepare themselves for the future, which is becoming competitive by each passing day,” he added. Anurag said that in the last five years, the inflation rate had been around 3.5 per cent as against 13 per cent before 2014. Only 40 items were being charged 28 per cent GST, while most of the goods and services attract low GST rates.
The Union minister said that he would take up the demand for the construction of a foot over-bridge on the road opposite the school with the Union Ministry of Surface Transport and National Highways.
‘Flag Day a tribute to bravehearts’
On the Armed Forces Flag Day, Anurag Thakur said that the purpose of observing the occasion was to extend financial assistance to the family members of the brave soldiers. He urged people to donate for the cause.
